To cut targets nito style requires skill, co-ordination and good timing and as the combined weight of the swords can come close to 2.3kg, strong sword-grips are needed to cut accurately and safely.
All cuts are accentuated by a strong kiai; a loud shout that releases energy, strengthen the spirit and focuses the mind.
Sensei Fricke, when asked, why he shouts so loud when performing tameshigiri said that, as he is getting older his body is getting weaker and so he has to make up for this deficiency with a stronger spirit.
