Battodo: Turn, draw & cut.
Samurai had no qualms about it when it came to dispatch an enemy in an ambush or from behind.
Therefore a swordsman had to be on guard at all times, constantly surveying the people around him and the terrain he had to travelled through.
They were highly skilled in heiho strategy and the art of encoding body-language; sensing that an attack was imminent.
As the blade is drawn while turning to face his foe this techniques requires a sharp sense of timing, balance and distance. The moment the swordsman faces his enemy fully, his blade has to find it's target without fail.
