Defensive techniques Kumiuchi kenden
Defensive techniques include disarming a swordsman (muto-dori) or to fend off an attacker with ones sword still firmly placed in the scabbard (kumiuchi kenden).
Some swordsmen and samurai, because of their religious background, would or could not spill blood. Therefore they developed their own defensive style against marauding swordsmen by making good use of the scabbard and sword handle to deflect any cut or thrust and subdue or knock out the attacker in the process.
